8 Gifts From God that You Must Guard Like a Crate of Eggs

Memory Verse:

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” – Proverbs 15:1

You know a crate of eggs, right?

As you are looking at those eggs, they are more than just a source of vitamin. They are more than ingredients for an omelet. In addition to serving as food, those eggs can birth a new generation of chickens, which can produce more eggs that produce more chickens. The circle can go on for ages. Thus, they can preserve life for several generations.

Look at those eggs in a crate. They are essential items. Unfortunately, they are very fragile, and thus must be handled with utmost care. When they get broken, it can be quite hard to piece the contents together.

There are things – Gifts that God has given to us – that we must treasure and protect as if we’re carrying a crate of eggs. We must guard these gifts jealously and protect them like a treasure.  That is, we must handle them with extra-carefulness because once broken, even though God heals, the process and period of the healing and restoration can be quite stressful. Let’s look at eight of these gifts today.

1. Your Name

“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold” (Proverbs 22:1).

Your name is a gift from God. Yes, it may have been given to you by your parents, but it’s now actually beyond just a name that you respond to when called. Behind your name is your destiny.

Your name is very important and must be protected like a crate of eggs. If you’re sick, you can easily get healed with prayers and medication. But if your name loses its goodness, it can be quite difficult and take a bit of time to restore.

Value good name more than money. Value it more than riches. Beware of actions that can rubbish your name.

Shakespeare said, “Who steals my purse steals trash; tis something, nothing; ’twas mine, tis his, and has been slave to thousands; But he that filches from me my good name robs me of that which not enriches him, and makes me poor indeed.”

A good name can open doors for you, for your children, and for generations after you. Carry your name with carefulness. It is a huge asset.

2: Your Heart

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23)

Many hearts are broken, shattered, wounded and bitter today. One of the factors responsible for this is because many of these heart- owners were careless with their hearts.

The Living Bible puts that passage this way: “Above all else, guard your affections. For they influence everything else in your life.”

That’s talking about your mind.

As I’ve often said, your mind is the spiritual gate into your life. That’s where God will speak to you; it’s also there that the enemy, the devil, will try to work his way into your life if you let him.

When you hear people say, God spoke to me, many times, they didn’t hear some audible voice; else everyone else would have heard it too. God dropped into their minds spontaneous thoughts, affections, emotions, ideas, imaginations, etc. that they could tell they weren’t thinking before.

God reaches out to us through our minds. That’s why the Bible encourages us to renew our minds and make it ready for God to be able to drop His thoughts to us. The devil also will gain entry into our lives by first going through our minds.

That’s why the WORD says to “…ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE…” guard it properly because it will influence what you become.

There are so many negative things flying around today, looking for our attention. Some of these news, stories, and issues defile our minds, cause us to be fearful, lose faith and worry. It’s time for us to learn how to protect our minds with the word of God.

Whatever feeds your fear is against your life. Embrace things, stories, messages, songs and chats that feed your faith instead.

Your mind is a gate. A very powerful gate. One that grants access to good or evil, which will eventually become a reality in your life. Set a watch over it.

You can guard your heart against being broken and bitter. Run away from people and things that are bent on breaking your heart. Carry your heart like a crate of eggs.

3: Your Purpose

“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces” (Matthew 7:6).

Your purpose, your vision, your dream, is your destiny. If you don’t handle it with utmost carefulness, it can slip off your hands and gaze and get broken.

First, beware of those you share your dreams with. From Jesus’ statement above, some people can hear your dreams and then turn against you in one way or the other, and try to break those dreams. While your vision is in the brooding stages, take utmost care of it. Pray over it and let God bring the right people to share it with.

Secondly, beware of so many things that can come like pressure on this crate of the egg of purpose – discouragement, lack of fund, delayed breakthrough, etc. These pressures can try to break your purpose. But don’t allow them!

4: Your Health

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 2)

Health is a great gift from God. We must take care of our health because once the body is broken, the vehicle to realize all of those beautiful dreams in us is weakened.

The good thing here is that if our health is already broken in one way or the other, we can pray and be healed. But we must learn to care for our health and not treat matters of health like nothing.

I heard a doctor say on TV some time ago that 90% of all health problems are what we eat. He said, “we eat ourselves into a mess, and we can eat ourselves out of it.”

He could be right you know.

You have only this body as a vehicle that will carry you through your journey of destiny in this life. Handle your health with carefulness. No matter how big your vision is, once you are dead, nobody can really run the vision like you! Fight for your health. Avoid things that can destroy your health.

Wealth is useless when your health becomes useless. Don’t kill yourself before your time. Do your best to stay alive.

5. Your Marriage

Marriage is a gift from God. It must not break!

As a counselor, pastor and prayer leader, I know from experience that a broken marriage is something that is very devastating. We pray and believe God for help and restoration many times, but believe me, the process is very difficult and painful.

So, fight for your marriage while you still can. Divorce and broken home is not the will of God.

I repeat, your marriage must not break, in Jesus name.

If things are going wrong right now in your marriage, take some time to a quiet place. Read the Bible and as many books as you can. Pray for wisdom and guidance and receive ideas on what to do and then – go do it.

6. Your Words

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21)

In an age where words seemingly spill out of us onto social networks, in presentations, in casual conversation, on blog comments and in the content we increasingly create and share with the world, are we giving our words enough forethought?

The words you use, whether verbally or in writing, can influence how others perceive you. They factor into the decisions people will make about you. They can build — or destroy — YOU and — your relationships.

Your worth is attached to your words. The words you say every day, do not just affect others who hear it, it also affects you who say it. In fact, your words affect you the more.”

Guard your words. Be careful with it. Inspire others with it

7. Your Salvation

“For those whom He foreknew [and loved and chose beforehand], He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son [and ultimately share in His complete sanctification], so that He would be the firstborn [the most beloved and honored] among many believers.

And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified [declared free of the guilt of sin]; and those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity]. (Romans 8:29-30 AMP)

Salvation is a gift from God. Accept it today and guard it jealously.  Don’t let the flimsy excuses of life continue to pressure you into sin. And if there are sins in your life, go to God today and let Him cleanse you with the Blood of Jesus Christ.

8. Others

Apparently, there are many precious gifts from God that we need to guard with care. Which ones do you think I’m missing out here? Please share them with us in the comment section.

I am on my way to the emergency room with what I feel is a gallbladder attack. I have no insurance and when I miss work I don’t get paid. I can’t afford this expense in more than one way because I also care for my 93 year old father. I don’t know what I will do. I feel so discouraged.
