Day 7 – Prayers to Deal With Spiritual Barriers (The Curse of Parents)

BREAKING THE CURSE OF PARENTS

– When those who have authority over others speak swearwords, the words become dangerous and produce the effects of curses on the victims.

– Parents’ curses on their children will produce the effects of curses; teachers’ curses on their wards will produce the effects of curses; a husband’s constant curse on his wife will produce the effect of evils, and so on.

THE CURSE OF PARENTS

– The first commandment with a promise attached to it has to do with our relationship with our parents

– Ephesians 6:1-3 says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise: ‘that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.’”

– Apart from God’s love for us, a parent’s love is the strongest and most enduring love that exists in the world.

– Yes, our parents may not always be right, but dishonouring and causing them pain creates problems for us eventually.

TEXTS/POINTS

– Proverbs 20:20 – Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in deep darkness (Proverbs 20:20).

– The Living Bible (TLB) – ‘God puts out the light of the man who curses his father or mother.’

– Dishonouring your parents, hurting them, or mistreating them, puts you in enmity with God.

– That is, God will be the one fighting you. Yes, you’ll fast, pray, have hands laid on you, yet the problem doesn’t get solved, because God is the one responsible for what you’re going through – as a result of treating your parents unfairly.

– This is one of the biggest mysteries I’ve seen working against many people, including Christians. You can’t treat your parents like they’re nothing and expect life to be fair to you.

– Deuteronomy 27:16 – Cursed is anyone who dishonours their father or mother. Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”

– Proverbs 30:17 – The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.

ACTIONS

– If you’ve disrespected your parents in the past, go back and say sorry. By going back to say sorry and getting their blessings, you’ll stop many unknown sufferings in your life.

– You see, the truth is that our parents may not have been so kind to us. But they are still the source we came into this world. We must do the best we can to honour them and get their blessings. The simple act of getting our parent’s blessings has the power to neutralize many years of hardship.

– Don’t forget that your parents here also connote your foster parents, guardians, and those who took care of you as a child. Getting their blessings and forgiveness can have a profound positive impact on your life.

– FOR PARENTS – The words that we speak to and over our children have strong powers to create their realities eventually.

– Colossians 3:20-21: Children, obey your parents in everything. This pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, don’t upset your children. If you are too hard to please, they might want to stop trying (ERV).

— – – – – – – – Almighty Father, the maker of heaven and earth, creator of the family and the home system, I come to You today with thanks. I appreciate Your wisdom in establishing the home system, through which Your purpose on earth is fulfilled.

– – – – – – – – Today, O Lord, I thank You for my parents and guardians. I thank You for giving them the grace to bring me to this world. I thank You for enabling them to care for and protect my siblings and me over the years. Receive all the praise in Jesus name.

– – – – – – – Dear Lord, I ask for forgiveness, in any way I have dishonoured and disrespected my parents or guardians in the past. Father, I was ignorant. Please have mercy on me. Psalm 30:5 says that Your anger is but for a moment, Your favour is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

– – – – – Lord, I pray today that You heal and restore my relationship with my parents and guardians. Give me the grace to forgive them, in any way I feel they haven’t treated me right in the past. As I take new steps to make amends with them, O Lord, may Your power prevail in our hearts, and may Your peace, love, and fear be established in our emotions once more, in Jesus name.

– – – – – From this day, O Lord, I bring before the Blood of Jesus Christ every curse, negative words, and evil pronouncements from my parents, guardians, and teachers in the past. I receive deliverance from the consequences of these statements from today, in Jesus name.

– – – – Every spiritual door opened in my life, health, and family as a result of past pronouncements from my parents, guardians and teachers, O Lord, I close them today, in Jesus name.

– – – And I decree healing and restoration from every hurt and pain affecting our lives as a result of these past pronouncements, in Jesus name

– – – Dear Holy Spirit, please uproot and flush out every seed of bitterness, malice and fighting in me and my parents. Let these evil seeds creating a distance between us be flushed out today, in Jesus name.

– – — As a parent also, Lord, I pray that all curses, negative pronouncements and evil wishes, I have uttered or wished in the past, against my children and those under my care, be nullified today, in Jesus name.

– ——-Today, I exercise myself onto forgiveness and willfully forgive my children, grandchildren, and anyone whom I cared for in the past that offended me. I drop all burdens against every one of them and release everyone from whatever curse happening in their lives as a result of this harboured pain in my heart, in Jesus name.

– ——–I speak blessings and peace in the name of the Lord on my children, stepchildren, grandchildren and everyone connected to me. I decree that it shall be well with all of them in Jesus name

– ——–From this day forward, Lord, I proclaim my offspring blessed. I declare my generation blessed. I declare my family members blessed. I pronounce my home healed and blessed, in Jesus name.
